01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Within the serene precincts of Oharano Shrine, Kogoro serves meticulously hand-crafted buckwheat noodles in a calm, crisp atmosphere. One of the house specialties is the thin-cut soba—delicately slender as only handmade noodles can be, yet possessing an enjoyable firm bite, a smooth glide, and an expansive aroma. Taking the first bites with just a touch of salt rather than dipping too deeply into the tsuyu broth allows the natural, gentle sweetness of the buckwheat to shine through. For days when you crave a more rustic grain profile and texture, the coarse-ground soba is equally inviting.

At lunchtime, a classic combination is pairing your choice of noodles with two pieces of seared salmon sushi. Lightly torched to bring out its rich oils, the salmon adds a satisfying savoriness alongside the clean profile of the noodles. The menu also offers versatile options to suit the season and mood, including chilled soba with pungent grated karami daikon, savory duck dipping broth, and warm noodles topped with grated daikon and nameko mushrooms.

For a bite before the noodles arrive, the kitchen prepares chewy sobagaki buckwheat dumplings and dashi-rolled omelets made with free-range eggs. The meal winds down naturally with a pot of hot sobayu, the cloudy buckwheat cooking water poured into the leftover dipping sauce, providing a soothing finish to a quiet midday respite.
